What started out as a home-learning pod for a small group of children during the COVID-19 pandemic, has now expanded to a brand new, private elementary school in Bedford.
With the purchase 21 Eastman Avenue in Bedford, Roxanne and Freddie Molina transformed the two-story office building into Bedford Academy, a Kindergarten through 5th grade accelerated learning center. The school boasts eight state-of-the-art classrooms with two innovation/collaboration areas, a large outdoor play area that includes an AstroTurf soccer area, two play areas with several climbing structures, a putting green, and picnic area for the children to enjoy.
Financing was made possible through the SBA 504 Loan Program in partnership with Primary Bank and additional assistance through CRDC’s Direct Loan Program.
“Bedford Academy was created to meet a need in the Bedford community for a local, private, non-denominational elementary school dedicated to preparing children for a more academically rigorous school,” says Freddie Molina, co-founder of Bedford Academy.
“We have a strong STEAM focus of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics,” said Roxanne Molina, PhD, co-founder of Bedford Academy and Assistant Dean for Student Services at NSU. “We utilize individualized learning plans so that all children work toward developing their unique talents and have the opportunity to realize their potential. This may mean acceleration for some students but not for all. All our students engage in learning experiences that promote innovation, critical thinking and inquiry.”
“Both Roxanne and Freddie have an amazing vision for future growth of the school,” said Jennifer Boulanger, CRDC Assistant Vice President. “We worked closely with Primary Bank to help develop a financing package that conserved existing capital for their future growth while also managing unanticipated start-up expenses.”
“CRDC took the lead in the financing aspect, which allowed me to concentrate on the renovation portion of the project while Roxanne focused on the curriculum and enrollment,” said Freddie. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the relationship between Bedford Academy, CRDC and Primary Bank. This was a true team effort. In nine months we were able to purchase the building, renovate the building and welcome our new students this Fall.”
